In the journal, psychotherapy, healing, philosophical circles, and life there exists one main problem, people paying other people to tell them what to do, think, feel, etc. You do not need to go to others for answers, you can get your own answers for yourself. The importance is on how you do it, how you walk the journey, not necessarily how other people do it.
Through a 100-day guide, you will be led through various levels of depth surrounding compassion.
This "Roots Journal" edition, focuses on cultivating compassion--going straight to the human heart. You will introspect on compassion in yourself and come to define compassion for you.
Through a one-hundred-day meditation on compassion, you will learn how you cultivate it; nobody is going to be telling anything here.
What is the source of compassion? Your heart! What is it? The heart… bundled with thousands of nerve fibers pumps blood to your entire being. your heart is a sense organ with an intelligence of its own; some say this is “emotional intelligence”, some say intuition; Shamans teach to consult the heart before important decisions; one can imagine it as the thread that connects us all.
What is compassion? Nice try… I will say that I propose that your "emotional intelligence" will grow as you develop a deeper appreciation for your challenges and consequently others’. I put “emotional intelligence” in quotes because emotions aren’t necessarily intelligent. They have wisdom and purpose, but an intelligence often implies an ability to understand or organize. They teach you things but emotions are not to be understood, they are to be felt. Compassion gives you the buffer to do that.
Who will benefit from this journal? Anyone and everyone. Compassion is a transcendent function and everyone can use help getting out of their egos.
Why Roots, Why Compassion?
I use roots to help emphasize that you are investigating for you, diving into your own root system as if you were a tree! I think compassion is important because I practice yoga, like heartfelt experiences and have found compassion to be the ideal buffer to help process my emotions.
The intention to focus on compassion helps you be present for yourself and for others. Similar to putting the nearly-never-needed oxygen masks on yourself before others, going inward helps you go outward. Your appreciation for various perspectives will grow as you give yourself space and thus others. This "self-help" method actually works because its you doing it for you, nobody is telling you anything.
